Question about fixing my TV...

I don't know if this is the right forum to post in, but here's the question...

On my ~10 year old 27" Toshiba TV, the picture seems to extend past the edge of the tube and a few lines at the top and bottom get cut off.

(computer monitor example: On the OSD, you can set the vertical and horizontal size so you can fit the picture to correctly fit the screen. Well when you stretch it too far, the top and bottom get cut off until yuo set it properly)

Is there any way I can fix this on my TV? It's so annoying because sports scores are impossible to see because the top half of the numbers are all cut off!

All TVs have a service manual which explains how to access the extended fine tuning options (service menu of your TV) (like the ones you look like you need). Unfortunately, if you mess up the settings, they're pretty much permanetly screwed. If you look on HT forums and websites, you'll be able to find out to access the service menu for each specific TV.

The other option would be to call Toshiba and pay $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ to have a guy which the manual come out and do what you could do.

I am not responsible for any consequences 🙂

If you open the cover and look inside, you will notice knobs and dials somewhere close to the tube. Those allow you to adjust the Hue as well as geometry of the screen. PC monitors have similar controls inside - they are set by the factory, and then the user can adjust similar parameters using the monitor's digital controls.

Ten year old TVs usually had those adjustment knobs and screws on the
outside. Usually in the front behind a secret panel or in the back.
Check around and you might find some.

hmmm... I just found out this tv is from 1988 :Q so its 14 years old.

anyway, I don't know where the service manual is, and a search on google only told me how to buy a copy. can someone help me fin d a website.

I'll look for a secret panel 🙂
