Question about fighting forest fires

i was watching tv and a commercial for the "science channel" came on, which i dont get, but they were describing a program which would talk about how firefighters fight fire with fire...does anyone know how this works?

Creating a controlled fire would suck oxygen away from the uncontrolled fire, thus making the uncontrolled fire smaller and easier to fight.

yes. they will set fires that burn toward the fire they want to stop thus leaving nowhere for the fire to go.
