So i have two friends that tell me two different things. One says that a case fan should direct airflow into the case for circulation and the other says that the fan should direct airflow out away from the case to release the hot air. I have always done it inside for airflow, am I crazy or is my friend? thanks for the input :)

They're both right. For optimal airflow, you need at least one fan blowing air in and one exhausting it out. Too many blowing in and hot air accumulates; too much being exhausted and there's not enough fresh air to circulate.

well it kinda depends. If the room is not cool or warm u dont want it blowing in hot air. so u would want ur fans blowing out. and if its cool in the room u can have 1 blowing in and another blowing out..

you don't need one blowing in one blowing out if the case has enough ventilation holes and isnt severely crowded. fans in series only better produce the max of one fan, not two. its why with many cases adding an intake sometimes does almost nothing.

fans 101 on the side still relevant.

and if ur hardcore u can always test rigs with a fog machine lol:) tape plexiglass to the open sideof case.

If the case has adequate intake areas on the side and/or front, then the rear case fan should exhaust air from the case. It's extremely unusual for a rear fan to be blowing into the case... Front fans generally blow in, although they're mostly unnecessary...
