question about external modem

i got the ext modem
usr robatic, i got the cable from store today
but not sure if i got the right now
the rs232 plug into the modem
but i can not find the other end for the modem cable
except i have to unplug my printer
does the other end of ext modem cable plug into parl port or what?
i thought it suppose to plug into serial port
 
There are two kinds of serial ports: 9-pin and 25-pin. Sounds like you got a 25-pin cable with no matching connector on your motherboard. No, it does not plug into your parallel port (the gender should be wrong anyway). You need to either exchange the cable you bought or buy a 25-pin to 9-pin adapter.
 
Right, it will plug into your serial port as soon as you get a compatible connector (again either on a new cable or by using an adapter).
