Question about Excel

Is there a feature in Excel that allows you to post a spreadsheet online, and then allow for anyone who can view it, edit it and save? Kind of wikipedia style?

If not, does any other spread sheet software or site offer this?

Thanks

I don't see any reason you couldn't put it in an online drive or FTP site. The only problem (and I see no easy way to get around this) is what happens when multiple people access the file and then save it out of order? You could have one persons changes over writing the previous person depending on who opened it first.

Hmm, hadn't thought of that...

I don't think this is native to Excel, but there are applications available that let you share documents online using their native applications (NetMeeting, etc.). You can basically grant edit rights to various people particpating - one at a time - allowing them to make changes.

Check out Microsoft's website. They may have some trial-ware that you could use.

I just went back and looked at this. My version of Office includes Online Collaboration (don't know if this is native or an add-on). Go to Tools->Online Coolaboration->Meet Now. You will be prompted for a server to use for the meeting. As long as everyone has access to that server, I think you can use it.

As I said, I haven't done this myself, so I don't know how well it works, or what the restrictions are. It looks like this would need to have all people involved simultaneously. I don't know if you can post a file and let other people edit it when you are offline.

All I can say is that ASP.NET 2005 has a really easy way of doing this. You don't even really have to program much more than drag and drop a datagrid(gridview now) tied to your excel spreadsheet, allow edit, and post it.
