I am planning to get a evga 6800gt pci-e for 299 from zzf. i hear a lot of people saying that i could use evga's step up program in the future and upgrade to the 7800gt. but is it really worth it? i mean the price listed for the 7800gt right now is 449.99 on evga's website and within 90 days, how much can i expect that price to drop?

also, wouldn't evga's prices for video cards always be higher than what you would pay at newegg or zzf?

The step up program only works for 90 days, and it's not nearly enough time for price of cards to drop substantially enough. For example, I bought my 6800nu when they were first released for a "deal" of $279 of Newegg. 6800gt's were still well above $450, and by the time my 90 days were up, the prices were basically still the same. It's a good program, I suppose, but 90 days is too short of a time.

The reason to think of the step up program is if you really need a video upgrade and are on the virge of a new generational realease and can't wait for it. Besides that their is no reason to go with Evga because if you pay atttention then you know what will be coming out in the next 3 months. The do have a lifetime warranty on their cards now though, but I would rather get a BFG for that.
