Question about Episode III

GoingUp

Lifer
I want to go see it tomm, but Im wondering if the 40 min drive to a digital theatre is worth it or should I just go 5 minutes to the normal film theatre?

Does the digital movie look better? Is there extra stuff?

no digital in GA 🙁

yes its worth the drive. there were at least 2 points where i groaned and wished we had a digital theater here in town.

Non-digital looks better for this film. The digital version is very crisp -TOO crisp. Every CGI element looks obnoxiously fake. In the non-digital version, the film elements are a little bit more blurry and everything meshes together much better. The CGI elements look more real because they don't stick out because they have *too much* detail compared to the live-action elements.

Good to know. Are there new parts in the digital only version?

Your eyes are not digital picture compatible. Any enhancements in the digital version will simply be wasted, because it cannot be processed by your visionary perception.

Does anyone remember that lame quote that anakin said about wishing he were back at the lake? Something "i wish things were like they were back on the lake"

Digital is just an approximation of the analog.

Nope. The only difference is that the film was "re-encoded" for lack of better knowledge on the process to be able to play on non-digital projectors.

I haven't seen both but I did see the digital version. To my eyes it looked pretty damned good and it was hard for me to pick out CG from the real thing, but hey that's just me. I'd say go see the digital version if I were you. I can't help but think that a film that was shot, processed, etc. all in digital wouldn't lose a little 'something' in being taken from the digital realm to the analogue realm.

There were theaters in ATL for PM that were digital.
Are they gone now?

I'm hoping this is a joke.

I agree 100%. I went on Sat to a DLP showing. First thing I noticed is the CG looked too much like a video game. It really stood out. 20-mins into the film the audio died so they switched us to a non-DLP showing and it was 100x better. Analog projection sort of filters out the starkness of DLP so the CG did not look so rendered. All the CG elements blended in with the live action much more in analog projection. I am glad I switched theaters because I was really distracted in the DLP showing.
