...why was he at the mercy of mace windu in a light saber fight? I mean, without anakin's intervention, he woulda been dead.

EDIT: I mean he's able to hide what's happening from the Jedi's for a long time, so I would think he's really powerful.

really? or was he just setting Mace Windhu up to be killed by Anakin? or the reverse, was he setting up Anakin to kill Mace.

if anakin wasn't there. mace windu could've killed darth sidious.

and no episode 4-6

and without ep 4-6 which were made 30 years ago, there would be no ep 1-3

and no ep 1-3, mace would never kill darth.

Very correct. Mace Windu is able to defeat Sidious in a lightsaber fight, but Sidious is able to use the situation to his advantage.

So, he was so powerful that even though he lost the fight, he won the battle. The battle was for Anakin, Mace didnt know that, Sidious did.

It's debatable. Some people think Sidious was setting a trap to test Anakin. Others think that Mace had him and could have killed him. The only thing Lucas says is that Mace is second only to Yoda. Of course, there is also a debate whether Yoda "lost" to Sidious. The bottom line is that there is no official answer and several plausible ones, so believe what you choose to believe based on the evidence :)

edit: typo
