How strange is it to consider looking for a "backup" job, in case you lose your current one? I don't know if my last duty station just has me paranoid or what, but I've started doing this lately...

Anyone else do this "just in case", or no?

I've never done it.

Mainly because I would consider a backup being something in case your current job falls through. But if you are already working your current job what sort of employer is going to hold a spot for you "just in case."?

Not getting another job in reserve, necessarily. Just doing the research in reference to another one.

If you have the ability to bail out at any time (wiht a reasonable period), then you can test the waters.

Or just start honing your skills, by learning how to dig and filter jobs taht are out there in your field.
