Hello,

I'm in the market for a new phone. I've narrowed it down to the RAZR2 V8 or V9 (gotta have the 3G) and the ROKR Z6. After browsing around ebay AND the motorola store site I have seen V9's for the same price as the Z6 which I think is a good deal. Only thing is the V9 is locked to ATT. I was just curious if I would be able to buy the phone and unlock it without any network activation of sorts? Because $279 for a brand new V9 is almost too good of a deal to pass up.

I was surprised to see lower prices direct from MOT for unlocked phones than from resellers when shopping a few months back.

Given a locked phone though, especially MOT, they are generally unlockable with just a code which can be had for no more than $10. The only requirement is a SIM for a service other than it is locked to so as to generate the prompt to enter the code -but you would naturally have that anyway. However, first try getting the code free from the service provider as some provide it upon request (such as t-mobile).
