Question about DVI monitor connections

ok, lets say I have a GF3 with DVI out and I have a monitor with DVI input on it. Will I see any real benefits of using the digital connection? Has anyone made the switch and noticed an improvement in image quality?

Yes, you will see a difference.

With an ordinary D-sub connection, the signal is converted from digital to analog at the video card & transmitted in analog format to the monitor.

AFAIK, LCD's that use a D-sub connector as opposed to DVI convert the analog signal back to digital before it's displayed. So it goes from digital -> analog -> digital. With a DVI connector you eliminate all conversions, the signal stays digital until it is displayed.

cool thanks, I'm looking at getting a DLP projector next year or so, and am wondering if its worth it to get a geforce with DVI output since a lot of the DLP projectos hve DVI input as well as a few analog types of input.

Are there any CRT monitors out there with digital inputs?

I believe there are some CRT's out there with DVI interface as well as VGA... don't know if there's any benefit to this besides allowing two different video inputs into one monitor. AFAIK high monitors have coaxial BNC connections in the back and that's the preferred interface for large CRT's. As for DVI interfaces with LCD's and projectors... I would do a little more research into it and find out exactly which digital interface the display uses and see if it matches with the DVI-interface that GeForce3 cards are currently using... I remember a little while back reading about at least 3 different types of digital interfaces and I think there are at least two different DVI "standards" out there currently.
