Question about DVD Recorders

For those of you who own DVD Recorders, do you also own a seperate DVD player for movies, or do you record and play movies from a single DVD Recorder? The reason I'm asking is that I have DVD player that is getting worn out, and a VCR for recording TV programs (nope, I don't have Tivo). I was wondering if I buy a DVD recorder if I can get rid of both my VCR and my old DVD player and use the recorder to do everything. Thx

I am interested in buying a DVD recorder for my Dad too... he records golf tournaments every week and after re-using VHS tapes a couple of times the image looks like crap

How good do they work anyways? Do they work exactly the same as VCRs?

Yeah, I use my set top DVD recorder as a player also. 3 years, almost 4 without any problems.
