Question about DVD Burners

just curious if and when they are going to be coming out with burners that have higher capacity...so to say you want to be able to burn an full movie onto a single DVD ??? instead of two regular DVD's


sorry it this sounds kinda retarded i haven't gotten into the DVD Burner scene yet, i am waiting....

I think the technology now exists to make dual-layer burners. However, I don't know when you'll see it on the market.

You can already recompress (quickly no less) DVDs to fit on a 4.7GB disc. DVDshrink is a great program for doing this.

i was curious about when the market will offer burners that are able to burn 1 to 1 without compression

Sure, if you don't mind a significant loss in image quality. The other option is XCopy, which lets you remove all the extraneous stuff like trailers etc. and just put the movie itself on one disc. Sometimes you still have to span to two discs though.



 
Compressing, for lack of a better word, does not necessarily mean the video will look bad. There are MPEG2 encoders that can do an awesome job. You'd never know it wasn't the original.

DVDShrink is great if you need to knock a little off the size. If you want quality, something like Cinema Craft Encoder is your best bet.

Personally, I like to have just the movie on a disc. I very rarely watch the extras anyway. By doing this you bypass the menu, the previews all the crap and just get to the movie. It also eliminates the layer change which can be annoying on some discs.
