Question about DV data connector cable

I'm a COMPLETE newb when it comes to camcorders and stuff like it. My friend has a camcorder (Sony PC-1 mini-DV camcorder). It can be hooked up to a computer with a "VMC-2DV cable". I looked the cable up online, and it's very expensive. I noticed it said "Based on an IEEE 1394", which I know is firewire. Does this mean I can use a regular Firewire -> Firewire cord for this camera?

I know I could probably find this out on my own, but my friend lives very far away, and I need the video ASAP!

"based on" usually means it's outputting standard IEEE1394 signals, but they've made it with a funky proprietary connector so that you can't just buy a cheap cable for it.

However it actually looks like it might just be a standard firewire 4-pin connector on the camera. Sony likes to call their "iLink" by a special name but it's just IEEE1394 without the Firewire trademark name. Any 4-pin to 6-pin cable ought to work fine, or 4 to 4 if it's going to most laptop firewire ports.
