Hello all,

Ok thanks, everyone for the dual monitor advice!

*EDIT*

Ok, i'm now using two monitors on an ATI Radeon 9000 Pro w/ 128 MB DDR.

I have a 17" CRT (primary display) on the VGA input and a 15" LCD (with a VGA plug) on the DVI input using a DVI-VGA adapter.

The max res on the CRT is 1280 x 1024 and the max res on the LCD is 1024 x 768.

I'm able to have an extended desktop with both monitors at their respective max resolutions.

BUT, when i reboot, the CRT goes back to 1024 x 768, screwing up all the icons on my desktop.

When i bring the CRT back to 1280 x 1024 and reboot, the same happens: the CRT goes back to 1024 x 768.

Is there anything I have to set to lock the CRT at 1280 x 1024?

Thanks

It depends on what you want to use the second monitor for.

For the most part, the performance of the primary card won't be drastically affected by the secondary. Movies and games will still run fine on the primary display.

Just be sure to get a card that's supported under Windows XP. You can get drivers for the V3 3000 at VoodooFiles.com.

If you use two video cards for dual monitors, 3D and other advanced features (TV tuner / VIVO etc) will only be enabled on the primary card. The card that BIOS initializes first is called primary by Windows.

The games will only run on the primary card. The performance of the secondary card does not matter, as long as the framebuffer is large enough to support the desired resolution/ color depth

I was having a similar issue with my dualhead 8500. After reboot the refresh rates would go to 60Hz.

Here's what I think fixed it: turn off the second monitor, pick the correct resolution for the main, click on "save as default" on the monitor tab.
