Question about Dual Channel Memory

I am new to this whole new Dual Channel aspect of Memory. It has been a while since I built a desktop and Dual Channel was not available the last time I did.

Patriot - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...sp?EdpNo=91221

Kingston - http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...p?EdpNo=708908

I Purchased the below two sets of RAM to max out my motherboard at 16gb. I noticed after purchasing the Kingston that its Latency is 9-9-27 vice the 9-9-24 of the Patriot, will this be a problem? is there anything else that I should be concerned with or does anyone see any reason why these two modules would NOT work together on my motherboard? Btw, the Motherboard is the Gigabyte 880GM-USB3 v3.1.

A dual channel kit just means that there's two modules. Why did you buy different brands?

You just have to try it. It will probably work. Sometimes you have to tweak the timings in the BIOS if it doesn't boot.

stargazr,

I bought the different brands just because of pricing. I wasn't able to get the patriot brand at the price I originally purchased it for since it was part of a kit.

I haven't messed with any timings yet in the bios, everythings just left to auto configure...

You state that it should probably work, do you see any technical specifications that might limit it in working when paired with the patriot? if both are on their own channels...

In theory it should all work, though you'd have to set it to 9-9-9-27 for both sets.

In practice some times there are issues and you get instability. Usually it works fine.

Zap,

Well, I will be giving it a go this weekend then... we will see.. I will update the thread accordingly. I plan to attempt to leave the settings in the BIOS at default auto and see how it goes... if i start to encounter problems ill set it to manual and see about selecting the lesser of the two Latency # settings on both channels. Hopefully they both play nice since they are all four DDR3 sticks.

*UPDATE UPDATE* So I installed both brands and they work... Windows 7 Recognized both and states the system is using 16GB Ram!
