Question about dual channel memory

I have a Dell desktop that uses DDR2 memory. It has four slots. I have two 1GB matching modules, and two 256MB matching modules. The 1GB are PC2-5300 and the 256MB are PC2-4200.

With this installed, it would all run at the lowest speed, right? Would I be better off just using 2GB of RAM and having faster memory, and leaving the extra 512MB of the slow stuff out, or would it be better to have the slower RAM installed, and have more memory?

This is a 3GHz P4 system, 800MHz FSB. If you need more info, let me know. From what i've read, it seems that the speed difference wouldn't be noticable and i'd be better off going with all 2.5GB of RAM...I just wanted to get some other opinions on this.

Thanks!
