question about DSL

i just moved out into a house and was looking into DSL. i know it comes through the phoneline but i don't have a landline and don't plan on getting one(my cell phone is plenty)

if i was to get DSL, would i have to pay for a landline for the DSL to come through or would I only just get DSL through the phoneline and no telephone service?

TIA

Depends on who your telco is. I believe Verizon doesn't require a landline. I think SBC still does.

some providers let you do the so-called "naked dsl"
google for it.

Yep what the OP wants is called Naked DSL which doesn't require POTS phone service.

Verizon wouldn't let me get a "naked" connection. Bastards

trying to get DSL from SBC, the 14.99/month promo

SBC will NOT let you get DSL without a phoneline. They announced at some point later this year they will slowly start rolling out naked DSL in certain areas, but I don't think that has even started yet nor do I know where these "certain areas" will be.

I did find a local DSL company near me (Lansing, MI) that will do it however. So look around for smaller providers.

Read the fine print on that promo..why do you think it's so cheap? You are required to sign up for more than just DSL.
