just something i'm mulling over in my mind
There are 4 apartments above a bar.
There is one connection to a Yahoo DSL line, hooked to a wireless router, and made wireless for the apartment.
Each apartment pays a certain percent of the total bill (25% each).
Each computer in each apartment needs a wireless card to access it (no duh).
________question 1) is this legal? it's like splitting one line for approx. 10 residents without Yahoo knowing
Landlord's son decided to make the bar downstairs wireless as well...
Using the internet the apartments pay for for the pub's wireless...
Pub gets free wireless... free as in, it's already paid for by the tenants...
Landlord's son got two amplified antennas to cover bar... now it's connectable in buildings next door and across the street.
It's completely open. no encryption or password.
Anyone in any building within 500ft can connect and access our internet because it's "open."
Anytime someone is in the pub accessing it, anyone connected in the apartment loses bandwidth and it slows to a crawl. this happens from 3pm-midnight. every night but sunday.
_________question 2) is this legal? tenants are paying for internet, but that same internet line is being used for public use
final question:
Should I, a paying tenant, just stop paying the monthly bill and connect to the free wireless like everyone else can?
I hate to complain. these are nice people and the landlord's son is a friend of mine... he had a decent idea. but i think he's a little "dee dee dee" in the wireless department
