Question about drug/alcohol testing

For a job I will need to take a drug/alcohol test in a couple weeks. The drug part is no issue. The alcohol part has me confused. Aren't I ok as long as my BAC is 0? Why are they even testing for it? If there is some lingering by-product of alcohol that stays in the body, how long before the test do I need to stop alcohol consumption?

Alcohol leave the body pretty fast, unless you an alcoholic then there is too much to get rid of by your system.

Ok, so as long as I don't drink the day before I'll be fine. I wanted to make sure it wasn't like drugs where some of the residue lasts for weeks or months.

It's actually 1.5oz per hour. Just completed drivers ed, and this was taught to us.

If you have to ask, you have a problem.

I think he was asking whether it stays in your system like THC or opiates, to where you could have a glass of wine for dinner and fail the test a week later because of it. Otherwise you'd need upwards of 8-10 drinks the night before work to test positive, right?

Exactly. I'll likely schedule the test for a Friday morning so I'll just not drink during the week that week.
