Question About Drive Placement On IDE Channels

These are the drives that i have.

some 4.0 Gig Hard Drive as my Primary Drive That contains my OS Etc.

30 Gig Maxtor. Used for storing large files.

8x DVD Rom Drive

4x CDR Drive.

Things i mostly do.

I will mostly be doing images of my data cds and storing them on my hard drive.
Then from there, burning them off the hard drive.

Anyone know what setup is the best?

My motherboard is a Asus A7V-133.

Thanks In Advance.

put the hard drives on one channel and the cds on the other if you want the fastest imaging/most reliable burning. though accessing the second drive will be hampered a bit but swap file usage on the OS drive.

EDIT: the a7v133 comes with a promise IDE controller on board, so just give each drive its own channel.

Damn then i would need 4 ide cables. Hmm i wonder where all those cable are at now when i finally need them.

Would it be a good idea to put them on all channels on the motherboard?

What good will that be?

the motherboard has 4 channels so each device can have its own. only one device on a channel can be addressed at a time, so you do get better performance by utilizing all the channels.

as for cables, you can use cheap ones for the cds.
