I play RPGs all the time, but what am i doing wrong with DAO? Its way too hard and i get destroyed constantly. I have tried so many strategies and tactics that im convinced i either totally suck at DAO (but KoToR was fun and this is KoToR with wrapper) or there is something im missing. The total suckage that is my level 9 Warrior is total and complete.

I've acquired DA recently and playing on Normal. seems pretty difficult to me, but a lot probably has a lot to do with what I don't do which I will get later to.

anyways, party is Alistair, Leliana, Morrigan, and my Rogue. I had problems with the undead Nightfall attack for a while until I ran my group to the dock and stayed there. most if not all mob packs have some aggro issue where you can pull off a single mob or a small group from the pack though, so I did that until they were all cleared.

then, I had problems with the Mabari pack (primarily the yellow named one) in Castle Redcliffe until I was able to get a partial pull of that group.

now, I've come across the Revenant in Castle Redcliffe and even though all the archers and melee undead were killed before the Revenant got killed, I haven't figured out how to kill him yet. all the stuns, knockdown, etc abilities seem to be resisted or have little effect and his damage his huge. I'm probably going to make everyone ranged and run around whatever character has threat on the Revenant.

now, I'm pretty sure a definite part of why the above has been difficult for me is because I haven't bothered to use traps or poisons yet, and I don't use the HP potions until a character is almost dead which results in them dieing a lot because of poor timing.

anyways, I think I should have rolled Mage. Morrigan is incredibly useful and so was that Mage during the tower climb at the beginning of the game.

I had a lot of problems in the start (on hard) esp with the revenants. Once you get a good speciality (I'm an arcane warrior with full dragon plate set) the game gets a lot easier. Do you have a healer in your party yet? If not, make sure to do the mage circle first to get wynne (spirit healer). Other than that, use LoS to pull mobs around corners and set up ambushes. Make sure your rogue is always in backstab position as it helps A LOT.

I think revenants can be sleep/horrored.

At any rate, general rule of thumb is that you should always have at least one mage in the party who is focused on suppression. Sleep, cone of cold, paralyze, petrify - dealing damage isn't anywhere near as important as keeping enemies pinned down.

two mages, each with offensive spells and healing ftw. then two tanks or one tank and one dps.

Every revenant except for that one is optional.

Morrigan should take Heal and Cone of Cold as her first spells, then Force Field. Cone of Cold is the most effective spell in the game: forget the damage, it will continue to freeze *everything*, even bosses up to high levels. (Bosses thaw out fast though.) Most group fights will start with warrior types rushing your party. Put her in front and freeze the first bunch of them. This will not only leave them easy prey for your warrior/rogue (activate any crit talent, because a crit auto-shatters any frozen white-level enemy), but provide a bit of a barrier for the next group. For bosses, leave her at medium distance with a clear angle on the boss so you can keep freezing him every time the cooldown expires.

Force field lets you manage boss fights: force field the boss and kill his minions while he's immobile.

The real key to the courtyard battle is
making sure the knights survive at the village, then opening the gate to let them in for the Revenant fight. You did see the gate control, right? ;)
