for educational purposes only. :)

i'm thinking of getting directv. i know that the box needs to be connected to a phone line and it dials out when it charges you for stuff you've ordered. when you order movies where are they stored? on the box or on the card? also, is there any way of resetting the list of movies that you have ordered?

The reciever need not be connected to a phone line. You can order movies by telephone. I've no idea the answers to the other questions.

Its just like pay-per view, you pay they allow you to view the movie isnt stored anywhere. it unlocks the signal for 24 hours.

skywhr is right...you order a movie and the card memorizes the charge not the movie. Later it will dial out and send a list of charges to direct TV, then at the end of the month you get a bill.

like BlackFlagg said, it needs to dial out to send the list of charges. is there a way of clearing the charges without dialing out? also, on the the receiver that i plan on buying, the list of what you have ordered is stored under a 'history' heading.

of course it is. :) like i said, i'm thinking about getting directv. 'free' movies will just sweeten the deal.

tvman28 - i'll take a look. i just thought that someone might be familiar with the technique.

If you subscribe to DISH right now you get three free months of all four of the movie channels.....HBO, Starz, Showtime, CineMax....

And there are free movie weekends too....

not directv, but i think that paying $5-$8 for a movie is ridiculous. if it was cheaper then it would not be an issue. if i wanted to steal cable i'd go downtown and buy a full-access card for $100.

It's not 5-8 for a movie...it's $3.99. That's not an outrageous price.

If you want to see a movie or ppv, I suggest you pay for it. If you think the price is too high, tough. Don't order it. Don't steal someone else's hard work.

This thread needs locked.

you guys need to chill a bit. ;)

1) i don't even have directv.
2) i haven't even ordered anything yet.
3) like i said, i'm just curious. and if i wanted to steal directv, i could and i'd get EVERY single channel and EVERY single pay-per-view event for $100. but that's not what i want to do, and is not what i will do.
4) and this coming from people that "borrow" computer programs from others.
5) and it's not like i'm taping it to watch later or re-distribute.

Don't steal someone else's hard work.
please. overdramatizing just a bit aren't we? actors get paid too much as it is, not like they're starving. the same with movie studios. and all the cable company has to do is pop it in, queue it and let it run.
