Im about to purchase a digital HD receiver( illico ) and a HDTV.

The digital receiver claim it show a resolution of 16:9.Will ALL the channels will be presented in 16:9 format or ONLY their 25 HD channels will have the 16:9 resolution?

16:9 is a screen format, not a resolution, just an FYI. Only HD programming are shown at 16:9. It's possible the HD channels will show some SD programming, which means you'll be seeing it at 4:3(bars will appear on either side of the picture).

Thanks for the answers, but i just think that its not worth investing 2k on a tv and the extra $200 on the HD receiver for 15-20 channels in HD.

yes my dvd would benefit from that, but anyway my trinitron tv got a 16:9 format that i can enable.( Ok its real HD but still very nice looking )

Thank you for saving me the effort of pointing that out. 😛

And OP, it largely depends on what you watch, don't knock it til you've tried it. 😉

16:9 is the way to go. Movies and HD programming are much better on it. We just got our first 16:9 set, a philips 30" hdtv. I dont' think I'm ever gonna buy another 4:3 set.

PS - this thing is beautiful. I watch more discovery channel now (discoveryHD) than I ever did.
