Question about digital cameras 2 or 3 MP?

I want to take nice sized pics, 2-3mp, in not printing any photos or not what.

Most will be for online viewing, and some videos.

My question is, taking a bigger pic and then resizing it smaller, does that make the picture more sharper??

Would 2mp be good enough? Im going to Taiwan

Uh a blurry picture might look less blurry when shrunk down in size if that's what your asking

Can you even get 2mp cameras of decent quality anymore? You might as well go for 3mp at least.

Megapixels aren't the only indicator of a camera's quality. For around $200 (probably less now), the Canon a520 is a great little camera. Bought my parents one for Christmas and they love it.

Edit: Looks like the A520 has been replaced with a newer model. There's the A530 (5mp), A540 (6mp) now. The A530 can be had easily for around $170.

Minimum 3, not sure if you can even find a semi-decent 2MP camera anymore.

I'd get at least 3mp today, since I don't think it'll cost you much more (if at all) and 2mp is not enough, because maybe one day you will want a larger pic and with 2mp it'll be too blury.
The canon A510 or A520 are very good cams at 3.2mp, but what's your budget really?

megapixel doesn't mean anything. Go for a camera with a good lens, proc., sensor. Canon SD series would fit the bill if you're looking for compact.

About a month ago I picked up an A520 for $180, but now they're on the clearance table at Walmart for $160 here. You might check it out, it's a really nice camera.

that sounds like it'd be the type of camera you're looking for - the A series are pretty solid and quite versatile.

My parents have an A70 and I used it for a couple weeks this summer while on vacation. Very nice camera overall I thought (considering its age). Good quality pictures and the manual modes are a very nice feature if you're into that sort of thing.

If you can afford it, get the A70 ... otherwise:

http://www.steves-digicams.com/2006_reviews/a430.html

Canon's PowerShot A430 is the 2006 upgrade of lasts year's very popular A410 model and includes all the feature users have come to love about this affordable point-n-shoot series. This year's model raises the resolution to 4 megapixels, enlarges the color LCD to 1.8-inches and employs a 4x optical zoom lens (compared to the A410's 3.2x.) While it still offers various user-friendly fully automatic exposure modes, it also features a Manual mode that allows the novice user to access more advanced camera settings like ISO sensitivity, white balance, metering, etc.

Bottom line - like every "A" series model we've ever seen from Canon, the PowerShot A430 sets the standard for the entry-level consumer point-n-shoot market. Where else can you find outstanding 4-megapixel images, robust performance, and lots of easy to use exposure modes all for $179 or less? With the exception of its slow flash recharge time, I had no problems with this model. That said, I feel it will make a great choice for those taking their first plunge into the digital world. This really is an easy to use camera with high-end features, that is very affordable.
