Question about different P4 with 533 MHz

Take a look at this on newegg. Specifically, the 2.8 GHz cpu. Which one should I get? The 2.8A or the 2.8B?? Anyone got link to an article I can read up on? Thank in advance.

Alright, I read up some, but still not sure about which one to pick. The 2.8A is Prescott core with 1 MB L2 cache. The 2.8B is Northwood core with 512K L2 cache. Question is, which one is better? Thank.

The 2.8a may overclock better, but will also run about 7 degrees celcius warmer. I would go for a "c" series cpu, even if you have to change boards. The albatron 845pe board may not work with the prescott.

Your link did not work, but a 2.8A with a 533Mhz bus is a Prescott. It also has 1MB of cache.

The 2.8B 533 512K cache is a Northwood.

They both are about the same speed with a slight edge to the Northwood. The Prescott is newer, hotter, and less likely to be compatible with your old mobo.

I am uncertain if that Prescott has HT, but the Northwood definitely doesn't.

EDIT that prescott does not have HT either.

If you are upgrading an old mobo, you probably want the Northie.

Damn you guys are fast!!! I don't wanna upgrade my mobo yet, just wanna max it out with the cpu for now. I'll upgrade the mobo later. So with my mobo, Albatron PX845PEV Pro, which one would you go for?

If you get the 2.8 Northwoord (which I would) let us know what stepping and how far it overclocks. I am still thinking about getting one for may 4g4a when they come down alittle more.

Hi !

I can get this cpu: BX80546PE2800E
CPU Pentium 4 S-478 2.8GHz 533MHz 1M Boxed "Prescott

Is that a E version and how good is it for overcklocking and does it have HT enabled.
I could not find any information on it anywhere.

Ty for help.
