Question about detonator install . . .

I am thinking of trying the new detonator 40s, and i had a little question for my fellow ATers. I know you are always supposed to uninstall your old video drivers before you install new ones. My question, however, is when windows prompts you to restart after the removal of old drivers, do you do it?? If you reboot like a good little windows user, the next time you get into windows microsofts default drivers will auto install before you get a chance to install the new detonators. So, is it a problem if you ignore windows' request for a reboot and install the new drivers then and there, that way winxp doesnt install default drivers? Or does windows NEED the reboot to fully remove old stuff?

Help me out guys!

thanks,
Butch

I always make sure that it will be super-easy for me to start the next driver installation process, and reboot without installing anything new. It doesn't really do any harm (you might have to re-organize your desktop icons).

Word of caution: you should read the 40.41 threads in Video and General Hardware... people are reporting image quality problems with these drivers. They seem like they just tweaked for 3DMark2001 performance. YMMV.

All I did was remove the Nvidia driver software from add/remove program icon in Control Panel, after I also removed by deleting the Nvidia folder and its contents from Windows Explorer, I rebooted(it did not try to install new drivers for me) and then installed the 40.41 drivers with no problems.

So, can anybody actually vouch for these drivers?? I have heard conflicting reports that they sacrifice quality for performance, but from what i have seen it has been purely speculation. Can anybody personally say they saw a decrease in quality, or performance increase?

Thanks again,
Butch

butch84,you`ll get different opinions on these drivers, however so far for me they`re fine on stability, on image quality I would put 30.82 drivers slightly ahead, best way to judge is to install them yourself.
