Question about Debit Cards

I was wondering if it is possible to dispute a charge through my Fleet Debit Card?

If anyone knows please let me know, thanks

You'll have to call your bank, but in almost every case, the answer is no. I never use my debit card for any online transactions, or for anything that has the possibility of going bad. I use it mostly for gas and groceries.

I thought you could dispute charges, the downside is that you essentially lose that money until the dispute is resolved. Perhaps I'm wrong...I don't use debit cards.

Actually yes you can. Call your bank.

Yes you can but policies vary from bank to bank.

BOFA is one of the best banks which offer debit card protection.

This is why I NEVER EVER EVER EVER use my debit card unless it's at an ATM or POS (point of sale terminal) at a grocery store which requires my PIN.

I repeat NEVER EVER EVER EVER use your debit card. Use a credit card instead.

Unless of course you don't have a credit card, well in that case ... get one 😉

Actually, no I can't, I work at my bank. You can report fraud, and they will take care or it, but you don't get the same dispute services that you get with a regular CC. Also, if the bank can not recover your funds, most likely, you will not get them back either. CCs are much more secure than a debit card.

Yes you can. I just had to dispute two identical charges on my Fleet Credit Card. I didnt have to pay them and now their fraud department is investigating it.

There is no law requiring them to be very good to their customers. Most places voluntarilly give you rights similiar to the federal CC rights (assuming the disputed purchase was made in the US). But as it is voluntary, policies will vary from bank to bank. Plus they can change their mind at any time for any reason. With a CC, laws are there to protect the customer; with a debit card you have no guaranteed rights. Thus a CC is usually a much better option than a debit card.
