Question about dealer ratings

Is there a way to see who rated a dealer using the built in dealer rating that you can enable in your profile? This doesnt seem very useful unless you can see who has rated that person. Any help?

Useless? Not 🙂. It tells you how that person was rated. Showing who rated them would result in a mutiny. That will never happen 🙂.

So theoretically if I tried to buy something and the dealer sold it to someone else there is nothing stopping me from rating that dealer poorly out of spite, even though the dealer did not necessarily do anything wrong. IMO, heatware is a better model (but not without flaws) because it shows who did the rating. You can in turn view the ratings of the person that rated the original person you looked at, thereby infering relationships and gaining more insight than a simple number can offer. A sort of rating by association: An established traders rating means more than a first timer. Am I making any sense? Some of the most popular rating systems employ this method: Heatware, Egay, Yahoo, etc. At least to me the association model makes a lot more sense. I dont see the built in forum rating system used much.

Why would it cause a mutiny?

the current rating system doesn't prevent non-traders from giving ratings. a poll or survey with comments would be better, like the bizrate model, but that would require a separate huge database. also, once rated, one cannot rate again, so if u trade more than once with a particular user, u cannot rate higher or lower...but then again, i understand the purpose for limiting the # times one can rate, the honesty of 40000+ members can't be trusted.

so, it isn't a good system, but it isn't bad either...the perfect system would be too difficult to manage, since this is only a disscussion forum and not a trading site such as eday...

The mutiny would come from "WHAT????!!?!?!?!?! XXXX GAVE ME A 1???!!!!!" then all hell breaks loose. AC, hit the nail on the head. We will be leaving this feature as is this is a discussion forum product not a trading product. 🙂. We just put that in there to try and help a little bit in those kinds of scenarios.
