Question about DDR RAM

My motherboard (Asus A7V8X-X) has 3 DDR RAM slots, currently two 256MB occupy two of the slots. I want to get to 1GB. Can I add a 512MB into the 3rd empty sot, or am I going to have to replace the 256MB sticks?

Yes you can. Make sure its the same speed. Like PC2700 or PC3200 and you'll be fine. (haha beat you scott by a few seconds.)

Ok, one more question.

The two 256MB are PC2100. But PC3200 is basically the same price now, and could be used on a new system if I decide to build one soon. Can I add the PC3200 and just run it at a lower speed?
