question about DC power adapters...

i have an amplified power antenna and it needs a power adapter to work properly...will anything get burnt out or become damaged if i plug in a 19v adapter? The antenna is supposed to take in only 12v.

+7 volts over spec is a lot, you will damage something.

just go to radio shack or something and look for a voltage regulator that will drop 19 volts to 12 volts

No, just go to good will and rummage through their bin of wall warts. If you aren't lucky enough to find a 12VDC one, go to radioshack and spend 11$ on one.

Correct, the amperage is usually so minisule that they cannot run anything. A good electronics supply place will sell 12V DC power supplies in the $20-$40 range that will provide all the power you need.

That is very typical for an adapter like that, but I think usually you can get them a bit cheaper than $14+. That adapter has 300 ma * 12 V = 3.6 W maximum. 3.6 watts of power just doesn't power much of anything. And that is assuming their maximum of 300 mA is at 12 V and not one of its lower voltage settings.

Jinduy, how much current or watts does your antenna need?

I'm actually looking for something very similar that can provide 10W (or even better 20W). I'm still looking though - I'm not sure if they exist. That is why I just buy a $25 power supply and deal with that instead.
