Do you really necessarily need to have one? It will cost me $600 and I can't afford it.

I have the same dilemma right now... need two crowns on the teeth on top in the very back... they say possible root canal and if I need the root canal then the teeth are getting pulled. If no root canal then I guess I'll get the crowns but I really don't want to pay $1000 for both after insurance...

I've had this done twice. Crowns that is. First time was in grade school when an idiot thought it would be cool to through a rock at my face. Last time was about 3 months ago when I fell down some concrete steps at a frat party. Same 2 front teeth busted out. Wasn't pretty for a while. I totally recomend crowns over being toothless because you will regret it for the rest of your life if you get them pulled.

it is when your teeth are broken off. you might be able to delay it a while, but eventually, you'll end up with stumps or false teeth if you don't get the crowns. i let some old crowns deteriorate so bad i ended up needing a $2200 bridge (5 teeth)

so you can pay them now , or you can pay them later

or end up with false teeth

Only if you want to keep the teeth. The gold standard (court standard) is to provide full cuspal coverage following root canals on posterior teeth. Anterior teeth (canine to canine) do not necessarily need crowns following rct, it depends on the individual tooth.

The reasons are quite simple. In order to access the root space inside the tooth, you need to make a large hole in it. This large hole weakens the tooth sufficiently that a reasonable risk of fracture exists unless the remaining tooth structure is properly protected, hence the need for cuspal coverage (crowns, or onlays).

hope this helps

I had one lower tooth pulled on each side of my mouth 20, and 25yrs ago... the top teeth have moved down to the point that it is gonna be a problem if I dont get it sorted... so, I am finally getting it sorted.

crown.faketooth.crown bridge type thing.

To do this, they had to grind 1.5mm off the two surrounding teeth. I am to the point where I have one side almost finished and have a temp in there right now. I have been in constant severe pain for about a week and a half now. Living on 600mg Ibuprofen 3x a day. Dentist says it is not a good sign. I might have a large pulp area. I might need to get a root canal. That would suck... but I will tell ya... if it is gonna be like this for too much longer... I will not bother with the other side.

I go to the dental college in Newark, so it does not cost me as much...

crown.faketooth.crown = $900.00

I dont know what the root canal will cost... think I overheard another patient being told $350.00
