question about crossfire

do you have to run crossfire rated cards in dual or can you get one for now, and then double up later down the line when you have more money.

is crossfire the only way to do "sli" for ati gpu's?

can you run non-crossfire rated cards in crossfire rated mobos and still be able to achieve crossfire?

thx

You have 1 crossfire "mastercard" and one normal card. Like I have my X1900XT, and when I want to go crossfire I'll just get the X1900 crossfire edition and hook it up. I have the crossfire mobo already.

Crossfire is the only way to do dual-gpu with ATI.

cool, thx

what is the difference between crossfire xpress 3200 and 200?

for the xpress 3200, what's the diff between mobos with ATI SB450 and ULi M1575 s. bridge?

thx

the xpress 3200 is newer and better. I have the asus A8R32-MVP deluxe, great mobo after updating bios (the 0201 bios that came with it had some issue with BF2 for some reason.... 0311 is rock solid)

The ATI SB450 southbridge is somewhat buggy and has some iffy USB performance. the ULi M1575 doesn't have the bug issues. ATI I think is waiting to update the southbridge until AM2 comes out.

will AM2 be worth the wait? seeing anand's reviews, it would seem DDR2 is completely wasted with AM2...I could be wrong.

I personally didn't wait for AM2, I went ahead with my current rig. Heck I didn't even get dual core. Now eventually I plan to, but a FX57 - well, 3700+ OC'd to that speed anyway - is plenty fast for me.

AM2 is starting to look a lot better, but personally I wouldn't get it right off the bat because it will be new meaning possible bugs, and the price will be really high to start off with.

You dont have to have the same cards running in X fire do you? Like a X1900XTX, then a X1800 series running in X fire would work, right? At least I thought you could...
