I have a Gigabyte P35 DS4 motherboard and I'm thinking about maybe getting two HD 3870 to run in CrossFire mode, but first I need some answers.
How much performance, if any, will I loose from not having PCIx 2.0? In the old PCIx the first card get's 16x but the second only gets 4x. Does this cripple the performance? I have a jumper that enables the cards to run in 8x both instead of one in 16x and one in 4x. Is this better? I've been trying to find information on this on the internetm but it's quite hard to find any information on how much bandwidth is needed for HD 3870.
EDIT: After some more searching and some luck I found this http://www.bit-tech.net/hardwa...intel_x38_versus_p35/1
it would seem there isn't much difference between 8x8 and 16x16, however 16x4 is much slower in some cases. This test was conducted using 2900XT however so I'm not sure if it would be the same result with HD 3870.
