question about credit cards

so i got two store credit cards about a year ago, from bestbuy and compusa. i maxed them both out, and just finished paying them both off in about equal increments. i know i could have stretched it the full 18 or 24 months interest free financing but i didnt want to procrastinate payments, nor have to have funds diverted for that long.

so what now to boost my credit? do i cancel them or keep them active even if i dont use them (i tore them up so i cant). or are they not as credible as visa and mastercards types that they only hurt my credit by signing up for those?

Keep them because they show you used credit wisely and credit scores are based on percent of available credit you are using. If too high, that's bad. So keeping them but unused will show you have available credit of which 0 perrcent is used.
