Who has one-time use CC numbers...?

MC, Visa, AMEX?

What other security feature should I look for? I'm in college and I do a lot of online shopping.

MC, Visa, & AMEX in and of themselves don't have them.

An individual lender's MC, Visa, or AMEX may though.

AMEX may be the exception, as I don't know if there are any AMEX cards put out by third parties.

I'd say it is pretty much a gimmick.
(1) I use a permantent CC number all the time with no problem. So do millions of other people.
(2) If you have your card info stollen it isn't your problem (as long as you report it) so you aren't harmed if it is stolen.

Ok Viper GTS pointed out that porn users (and a few other people) have one use for them.

Amex Student Blue Card has em...i use it all the time when making online purchases...i think all of them have them though it just depends on the issuing bank as well though...

Security features to look for would be the usual stuff...i like my amex cause its doubles the warrenty on whatever i buy dunno if thats as much security as it is piece of mind though :p

No, it is not a gimmick. Quit talking out of your ass about things you don't understand.

Getting a permanent card number changed is a major PITA, I don't even care to remember how many things automatically bill to my CC. If those charges start bouncing my life would be a mess. My cell phone would be overdue, my parents' ISP would cut them off (I pay for their internet connection because they're too cheap), my web hosting would cease to work, my auto insurance would lapse... And that's just off the top of my head.

They're also great for trying a new vendor, getting in on deals at somewhat shady retailers, and paying for automatically renewing subscriptions.

You know, the $2.99 for the first three days and $29.99 a month after that.

Subscribe with the one time use, download the entire site, & then sit back & watch them try to bill you that $29.99.

I completely agree.

True cc's offer protection against unauthorized purchases but:

1) It's a major pain in the ass (from personal experience) to cancel your cc and get it re-issued.
2) You have to wait for your new cc to arrive, hope it gets activated alright.
3) Change all the automatic billing you have against that cc hoping you remember which cc you used where and when.
4) Change online banking to make payments.
5) Change your Amazon.com shopping cart, etc.

That can all be avoided if people used the 1 time use cc features, it's definitely not a gimmick.

Ok I'll give you that one. I didn't think about it since I refuse to ever order anything that would put me on a subscription like that. But still getting another CC number isn't very difficult (I've done it - lost my wallet). You should always have one CC you don't use so just immediately cancel the stolen one and switch to the unused one. Then wait the week for the new CC to come in the mail. Yes it is a hassle, but like I said it happens to so few people that it isn't a big deal. But yes you have a point about the subscriptions for people who like to sign up for those.

Discover has that feature too.

They do not. They offer a unique credit card to each merchant. That merchant can charge your card as many times they want with the number supplied.
