Question about creating images (ISO) of software CDs

Hi guys,

My UL30A doesn't have a CD drive. There are a number of programs, such as Microsoft Office and Photoshop, that I'd like to install. I'd rather not leave a portable DVD drive sitting on the shelf collecting dust 364 days of the year if I can avoid it.

From what I gather, I should be able to make an ISO of the CDs I want to install using a program like Alcohol 120%. Then, I can store the ISOs (along with the CD keys) on a portable hard drive and install them any time I want.

Is it really that simple? Are there any programs this won't work for, or is this illegal or immoral for any reason? I plan to do this mainly for office applications, though I may make an ISO for most of my games to avoid lost / scratched CD problems. Of course, I won't be sharing my software with anyone.

Thanks.

Yes, it is that simple. The free Alcohol 52% will work as well.

Games tend to have issues, as there are many copy-protection schemes out there that do not work with ISO files. Some will even block the game from executing if a virtual drive program like Alcohol is installed.

For office apps you should not have any issues.
