Question (About CPU Heatsink Fan)

I should be putting my computer together tomorrow and I was wondering if there was any way to plug in the CPU fan and check that it spins before installing the processor and such? I've never done this before and don't want to burn the CPU by either a defective fan or by plugging it into the wrong spot/wrong way etc.
The fan is the stock AMD64 heatsink/fan.

don't worry, if the fan doesn't work, the CPU will quickly reach shutdown temp and just crash the system. It will not be damaged. You can always leave your case open and watch it turn on when you power up too.

Just leave the case open and watch it.
As long as the heat sink is properly installed, it won't burn up the CPU.
