Question about Corsair SSD

Hello Anandtechers.

I'm thinking about going the next step for improving my computer and getting a SSD. Atm, Frys is having a deal on the Corsair Force 3 120 GB SATA 3 for 130 AR.

For a 120gb at 500 read/write it sounded pretty nice, but I've been reading reviews on Neweggs and it hasn't been all that positive. The problem is that the majority of the reviews are either 5 star GREAT(which sounds like review bloating more than anything...) and 1 star(fail! burn in hell corsair!).

Does anyone have any advice on the reliability for this SSD?

Thanks!

After the 1.3.2 update the complaints really went down across the tech web. The current firmware is 1.3.3.

I would get the force gt. it has synchronous memory which maintains performance better when the drive gets filled. It's only a bit
more than the force 3, which is asynchronous.

Read the results of sync vs async at hardocp.com. They did a good write up.

Both Corsair and OCZ SSD's are much more reliable since Sandforce finally fixed the firmware sometime in October.

Unfortunately, more reliable for Sandforce isn't anywhere near what Samsung, Crucial or Intel offer.

There are still many reports of users having problems even on clean systems with the latest firmware. See one thread below. I think this thread went to PM after page 2. I doubt OCZ would have wanted it carrying on in public.

Thank you for the help. I decided to not jump on the Corsair until I feel completely sure about investing in a SSD.

This. I had a Force 3 for a time, but it couldn't keep up with my M4. I only wish I had done a bit more homework; I would have gotten (and kept) the GT.

Good advice. The M4s are also less expensive and faster per GB than the previous C300 generation, which I've very happy with. Prices are dropping enough that I'm thinking about upgrading soon.

SSD prices are finally getting to be "good enough" that even some budget conscious types will consider them. Even after spindle drive prices stabilize from the Thailand situation next year, if you can buy an 80gb boot/OS/browser/most used programs drive for $80 to go with your ~ 1tb drive for another $80 or so, it just makes too much sense to pass up these days. Especially with all of the good press that ssd's get it just makes too much sense. And that's not even factoring in laptops, where ssd's are already the right size but spindle drives are much more expensive per GB than they are in desktops.
