question about core i7 ivy bridge

i'm looking for a cpu upgrade.

currently my cpu is 945 phenom II and it seems to be bottle necking my other comptuer components

gpu: 2x 6970
psu: 1000w cooler master silent pro
ram: 16gb 1066 <-- should i upgrade to 1600?
storage: ocz vertex 3 max ops

i am going to use my computer for gaming and running multiple virtual machines.

i was thinking...

to change my mobo to rampage 4 extreme.
ram upgrade to 1600 32gb (since 64gb is too expensive)
cpu upgrade to a corei7 ivy bridge hexa core.

my problem here is i heard rumors that only the quad 3770k is coming out. there wont' be any hexa core.

and is my upgrade reasonable? my upgrade budget is around 1300usd

All IB processors will be in the 2C4T, 4C4T or 4C8T variants so you would have to pay more for a 6 core SB-E if you want. A quad core shouldn't be that much of a problem if you're not gaming and running VMs at the same time. Probably you could look into a Core i7 3930K.
