question about cooling for SN45G

i just purchased one of these with a barton 2500+.

i was wondering if the stock heat pipe that comes with the case is adequate cooling if i decide to OC the processor?

also, my CPU temp seems to reach 53 degrees C during heavier loads (at the default clock speed)...that sounds kinda hi. is this a typical temperauter?

thanks in advance!

Yes, the heatpipe should be adequate, depending on how far you go with your overclock.

That temperature seems a little high. Mine runs 48-52 often, but that is in a room that is normally about 85F.

You can help with temperatures by putting in a higher CFM 80mm fan on the ICE setup and/or cutting out the mesh that is in front of the radiator and replacing it with a normal fan cover for reduced air flow resistance. The latter method has been reported as lowering temps 4-10C.

That isn't the goal of most people when it come to temperatures, but athlons are rated to 805-90 degrees C so I thik your OK. I don't know about CPU's but the company my dad works for rates their components based on the highest temperature they can work at close to 100% reliability. So often they can be used past their maximum.

thanks for the input guys, it helps a lot.
i might look into some of those cooling mods.

also, i was wondering if it might be because of how i mounted the CPU. how much thermal paste are you supposed to put? i placed only a paper thin layer on the die.

i wasn't sure how tight you are supposed to tighten the four spring loaded screws that mounts the heat pipe to the CPU. are you supposed to tighten it until it can't turn anymore? i'm afraid i'm gonna crush the die if i tighten it too much

thanks a bunch in advance!

Sounds like you did fine with the paste.

When I tighten mine down I do opposite corners about 1/3 turn at a time until they're snugged up. Basically, there's a point at which you will notice it become noticeably harder to turn - I stop there. Seems to work...
