Question about cooling a Intel Xeon X3210 Quad

Hi all,

I have a question about the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 Rifle CPU Cooler.

Right now I have an Intel Xeon X3210 2.13GHz Quad CPU with a VID of 1.2125v and thermal spec of: 85c overclocked to 3.2GHz @ 1.25v. I'm using an Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro w/ MX-2 thermal paste and at idle my temperatures are 46,49,45,44 (with Coretemp).

I've tested the overclocking ability of this CPU and I'm able to do 3.6GHz @ 1.45v but then my idle temperatures are around 57-61c w/ the AC7 Pro.

If I were to buy the XIGMATEK HDT-S1283 and use MX-2 thermal paste, would I see a good difference in the temperatures? I'm looking to use 3.6GHz for 24/7 use as I do game and 3D work...but I'm trying to get the temps down to around 50c and I was hoping the XIGMATEK would do that, as the AC7 Pro isn't cutting it.

Thanks!

Jeez, they are abit high, mines only at 27,24,23,27 at idle, I dont even reach those temps at load..!?, I'm only at stock but something tells me you arent mounted correctly...

What case is this all in? Sounds to me, as though it's not getting enough airflow. The only way to suspect it's not seated right is to see idle and load temperatures, when the idles are way out of whack but, it settles in a little and is only about half as far out of whack that it's a seating issue, just not enough info to call it that yet, IMHO.
