question about cooking using an oven (broiling)

I just marinated some beef chuck with teriyaki sauce and i'm about to broil it in the oven. I forgot, when you broil, does the heat come from above or below inside the oven? Also, are you supposed to put the rack up high or down low in the oven when broiling?
