Question about connection to Cisco Local Director LDIR-416 (rollover cable problem?)

OK here's the story....I bought a bunch of Cisco stuff...I don't know much about these kinds of things, but I have a friend who knows the basic commands. I bought a few routers and switches, and a couple of these LDIR-416's.

I had a 2610 router which we connected to, and found out what's in it, and I sold it 2 days later. However, when I tried to connect to the Cisco Local Director, we couldn't get in - no response. I'm pretty much scared out of my mind that it's broke, but my friend, and one other guy who I talked to said it's 1 of the following 3 problems:

1) I need some type of floppy disk to boot the machine up - this is a good possibility since it has a floppy drive, and it's basically just a computer...soo....

2) The flash ROM / flash card is destroyed, removed, or doesn't work. I guess this is the thing that holds the sub-OS right? Kindof like a BIOS or CMOS?

3) The null modem cable I made is bad, and/or I need some type of adapter. This is another possibility. However, the cable worked fine to connect to the 2610 router. It's a rollover / null modem cable, made w/ cat5. I didn't have a crimper when I made it (this is kinda funny), so I did the connection by hand. I had an already terminated cable on both ends, so I just put a cut inside and put the cables together by hand (I assure you that they are properly twisted together, to the best of my knowledge), and this is also the same cable that we used to get into the 2610 router. It's pretty crappy looking....but it works, damnit :). If needed, I can make a correctly terminated cable, but I think this cable works fine.

So what do you Cisco CCNA people think this problem may be? What do I need to do just to check if this thing works (I have 2 of them, almost identical), and to see what's inside of it?

Please post reply here for all to see....or you can PM me if you wish, or email to tambrus@yahoo.com.

Thanks!
