Question about connecting a cell phone to the PC

It seems like my cell phone (LG VX6000) provider (Verizon) could set up a web based interface that would allow me to do things like manage my address book, then transfer the data by calling my phone. I think maybe they do that in Japan, but not in the states. So, what about buying a cable that attaches my phone to the USB port? I can get one for $20, but where do you get the software?

from my searches it seems like there are a few software options, one is made by "Future Dial" and the other by "DataPilot" they arent free though

not sure about the vx6000 phone but i have the vx4400 and i use the data cable at radio shack with bitpim
