Question about Comcast cable internet

Ok... so they have several 'specials' going on right now--reduced price for 6 months.

My question is, after the promo-period ends, what does the price go to?

Examples: internet for current customers, $19.99/mo for 6 mos
digital starter cable, 29.99/mo for 6 mos
etc

Also, is it worth taking part in these promo packages? Or will I get reamed once it reverts to regular price? All I really want is internet, but non-comcast customer internet is $60/mo, so it seems like it'd be cheaper to get some cable (basic for $7.61 or digital starter for $30) + customer internets for $20... UNLESS the prices skyrocket after the promo period.

Thoughts? I hate how they don't tell you what the regular rates are :(

Your best bet is to simply call your local office there and ask them.

Call them and ask them what their regular price is. It may vary depending on region so asking on these forums won't help unless you find someone near you. It's faster to pick up the phone and ask them. In general, yes, you will get very screwed. The price will be in the $50-60 range per month before taxes.

IMO, it's *not* worth it. Comcast blows. I switched to FIOS and have never been happier.

FiOS isn't any cheaper.

They say they have plans starting at $42.99 - and that's IF you have Verizon phone service. Well...cellphone or actual landline? If cellphone doesn't count, then it's $47.99.

Well that's about what my Comcast internet would cost if I just had the internet + basic cable. But I also have HD, digital package, DVR, etc.

Sure the bill is closer to $60 with the cable TV, but I'd have to pay for TV with Verizon too, and I'd lose a discount by not having two services, so getting FiOS would actually cost me MORE money. Not that it matters since FiOS isn't even available here.

Internet is 42.95 + 3.00 for the modem rental.

Digital cable is going to be around 60 with one regular box... you're looking at around 100 before fees and taxes which are usually 20$ or so.

could be, I wouldn't know since I only have the internet access.

Comcast cable internet by itself is 50-60 regular price (or, at least, it was for us). basic cable TV adds another $8+

Yeah, and? I get better service through FIOS than I do Comcast. Keep in mind that I pay less for FIOS internet than I do for Comcast internet and I get more than double the speed. I have a 20mb down and 5mb up connection.

Booyah, bitches. :D

What I pay except no modem rental. My parents only have internet and no TV and their bill is between $50-60. This is Detroit area.

Nik, believe me, NOTHING would please me more than to get FIOS. Unfortunately, it is -not- available in my area. If FIOS were available, I would've never made this thread b/c I would've signed up for FIOS in a flash. I live in Cambridge, MA. I'm guessing the infrastructure in this area is pretty old... and would be expensive to upgrade, hence why it hasn't happened.

So... does anyone know what constitutes a 'current customer' at comcast?

Like can I sign up for basic cable & the current-customer internet to get the reduced rate?

edit: internet here is $58 + modem rental. Unless you get the current-customer rate, which is $20 promo & $43 regular.

Current customer means you already have account and have been paying bills with them. The Comcast CR's have a fair amount of power to offer deals and things, though. If you smooze your CR up a bit, they could probably just hook you up with a current customer package if that's what you want.

I'm pretty sure the price for internet reverts to something like $45/month with other services (TV or phone) after the promo period. We figured out we could get internet and digital voice for less than $10 more than just internet (since the price for internet alone is inflated), so we went ahead and added the phone since you'd be hard pressed to get unlimited home phone service for less than $10 anywhere else and our cell reception is flaky (UMA is flaky on our phones, too).

When they came to activate services at our place, the guy climbed the pole before looking at the work order in detail and ended up activating basic TV service, too. He said he didn't want to climb the pole again to shut it off, so now we have basic cable for free in addition to the Dish Network service that is included in our rental unit.
