Question about Cell phone plans

If I sign, say a one year contract, during that time can I switch price plans but stick with the same provider? What if I want to up my minutes or the provider starts offering a better rate for the same service? Am I stuck with the service I signed up with on the contract with the same price?

It would probably depend on the company. Verizon let me do that though and I had a 2 year agreement with them.

Most all the cell phone companies will let you switch to any plan at any time during your contract. I've never heard of a cell phone company ever refusing to allow you to switch. I use Verizon and have already switched my plan 3-4 times in the 6 months I've had the phone.

I'm with AT&T, they wouldn't let me switch to a less expensive plan until my contract was up. And then when my contract is up they wouldn't give me the bonus night/weekend minutes they were offering with the plan I was switching to unless I signed another 1 year contract. The kicker is, the plan I switched to has a different, more crappy coverage plan and does not have voice mail. Now I can barely hold a call in my own apartment. I'd be better off going to their prepaid plan which has free voice mail and the better coverage area. Wireless companies suck.

Sorry to rant.
