Question about case fan placement

first off the case in mind is the sx830 which i will get soon

it comes with 2 rear 80mm fans in the back.

my question is that i heard that it is a good idea to put a case fan right across the hsf and that will lower your temp

but say that the 2 rear fans are 34 cfm and the case fan on the left panel is 42 wont all the air being sucked in get sucked right out??

Or should i move it lower and to the right more since its being sucked from upper left

here the best way to put a case fan to lower cpu temp?

Edit: I want to use the 92mm 42cfm fan casue i already have it so i want to make it use full

I use that case, I'd suggest trying it with fans loaded in the spots provided before doing mods.

it allows 2 exhaust (right at the HSF) and 2 supply (front lower). There is also a mounting clip

in the HD bay for a third 80mm fan for (intake) cooling them.

That's 3 intakes on the front (lower and mid), 2 exhausts on the back (upper) Plus you have the exhaust

from your PSU. (I replaced the Antec PSU with Enermax... lots of exhaust from it's dual fans)

Anyway, my sys. temp. never gets to more than Ambient +2C (and that takes a couple hours of gaming)

Couple that with an Alpha 8045 cooler with the fan oriented to exhaust from the heatsink (directly

into the exhaust fans) and you are probably gonna see about all the cooling that air will provide.

PS: a slot fan mounted in the 1st PCI slot does a great job of rejecting heat from your video card.

(doesn't affect system temp, but you will see GPU temp drop significantly)

yeah i was either going to put a 92mm fan there 42cfm 30dba or i hear in another thread of mine that someone put a fan over there hs and it lowered it 3-4 degrees

P.S you can fit a 80mm in the hdd bay? i thought that it doesnt home with a holder?

re: HD fan mount

yeah, it is the same (purple) plastic mounting clip as the other 4 fans.

I don't know why it isn't mentioned on the Antec site.

so you have a fan on the door??

if so... i would have it blow into the case (ie at the hsf)... but of course your fan on your hs has to be blowing (vice versa for sucking)
then if you are currently only using two fans.... 1 in the top rear position... and the other in the bottom front
that would create the "best" airflow through your case... but i would suggest filling all those fan holders ;)

No, no fan on the door.

I loaded both the rear (upper) mounts and all 3 mounts in front (two lower and one in HD bay)

There is a PCI slot fan below the Video card

The Sunon fan you see is the HSF mounted on an Alpha 8045

Airflow:

directed inward on front of case (3 fans) lower
directed outward on rear of case (2 fans + PSU) upper
directed outward below video card (PCI slot mount fan)
HSF blows AWAY from heat sink directly into the intake of the two rear exhaust and PSU fans

(what made you think I had a fan on the door?)

if i fill in all the 80mm holders that already room temp, but i heard that if you put a fan on the left panel blowing on the hsf that it will lower temp

Insidious
i was talking about a case fan right across the vid or hsf no a pci fan. do you know your case and room temp? i dont know if i should put one in the hdd bay casue im going to take that out(hd with 5.25 cooler)

btw a case can only get to room temp and not any lower. ill like a website that tested the sx830 with fans and you will see

Edit: I want to use the 92mm 42cfm fan casue i already have it so i want to make it use full

Agreed, once you get your case temp to ambient, it isn't going any lower.

The only way I can figure the fan blowing through the door might help further, is that it is increasing
the airflow rate on your heatsink if your HSF is configured to blow at the CPU. Which would
give better heat exchange (theoretically). Also, if you have no other device moving air off
your video card, it would be helpful to stop hot pocketing in the area of your PCI cards.

I opted for the Alpha so I could have some quiet (no more 7K fans for me... EVER)
a nice plus to that was that this HSF is designed in a way that it is very effecient
with the fan blowing away from the CPU. This avoids the blanket of warm air leaving
the heatsink warming my MoBo/RAM and the hot pocketing that also results where
the video card meets the MoBo. Also, the hot air leaving the HSF is put directly to the exhaust fans.

I wasn't trying to say your ideas won't work, they WILL. I was just offering up more ideas so you
can proceed with the choices that are best for you. If you are into the hobby of case modding, your
idea is a fun one to explore.

edit: cool link

OK that's wierd... I can see on their pictures that the plastic fan mount is NOT installed on their HD bay??????

I guess I got lucky (bought my SX830 at BB)

ok but i dont know if i will get the alpha (considering getting the shuttle ak31 rev3) and screwing it into the mobo kinda scares me lol

but that would be a good idea if the hsf was blowing right? im just not sure if the cool are is going to go right back up through the rear excaust

thx for the input anyways
