How come every one is talking about the 6800 ultra? Isn't the Extreme Edition the most powerful of the geforce 6 series? And the same thing with the 9800 series, everyone talks about the performances of the 9800 pro but isn't the 9800 xt the best one? And also the same with the fx series, on my box of 6800 Gt it compares the 6800s with the 5900, but isn't the 5950 the most powerful of the geforce fx series?

what are you getting at? no one buys those high end cards anyways (well, not many) so they compare it to what people know.

But the geforce fx 5950 isn't a high end no more. People are talking about getting 9800 pro as something that's one level below the x800s but isn't the 9800 xt supposed to be what they wanted? and how come you don't see a lot of 9800 xts around today but you see a lot of older pros?

Sure 9800XT is better, but then you loose the attractive price that makes the 9800Pro a choice at all, in the first place. If you want an XT, you might as well go 6600GT.

The 9800Pro was the "real" top model thing, the XT was just a tune-up from that, that you could get if you didn't already have the Pro. It's basically like a revised CPU core; you get it if you buy later, but if you already have an older one, an upgrade is not very justifiable. Besides, the availability of the XT might not have been as great back then, and if that was the case then it surely isn't very great now.

Even though it's better, buying a 9800XT is kind of like buying an X850XT PE now, instead of simply the X850XT, now that the 7800GTX is here.

All these X's and T's and numbers and abbreviations and...

what about the 5700 ultras? It used to beat ATI's 9600xt but no one talks about it no more.
