I was reading a news report about a judge ordering Ford to recall many of their cards made in California. I decided to look at the recalls on the web for my car and found this:

1989 Ford Taurus

I bought it used a year ago. Can I take my car in to get some of these things checked? Is it free? Has anyone every taken a car in for a recall? Any info will help. Thanks.

The Ford dealer should be able to just type the VIN from your car into the database and be able to tell you which, if any of the recall items have been done to your car.

If any of the items need to be done, there will be no charge for the work. However, you will be required to leave the vehicle with them.

The Service Bulletins are just information for the dealer and repair shops to use to assist them in diagnosing and repairing problems.

You may want to check
this site if you are interested in Service Bulletins. I had a problem with the rear defogger on my car I could not figure out. I went to the dealer with the TSB number I got from this site. They printed it out for me. It had detailed directions and the part number for the repair kit required. It worked out really well for me.

I had a friend that had an '89 (I think) Taurus and the recall was because the subframe bolts could rust out and your engine/transaxle could fall out unexpectedely.

Definetly get it checked out.

BTW I'll never buy another Ford again.
